History of Mr John Dale

John was born on February 13, 1937, at Mendooran NSW, the elder of twins by a few minutes. Sister Joan (undiagnosed twin) followed him into the world.

John’s siblings included Enid, Ray, Colin and Frank, with John and Joan being the youngest.

He spent his childhood with parents Jack and Jessica, and siblings, living in a variety of places, including Birriwa, Tampa Springs, Budgee and finally Mudgee where he attended high school and completed the Intermediate Certificate in 1952.

In 1953, he commenced his Mechanical Apprenticeship at Jim Harvey Motorist Centre, Mudgee. After finishing his apprenticeship, he stayed on with Jim Harvey until April 1959.

From Mudgee to Toukley that same year, with dad and mum Jessica (who bought the BP Garage Toukley) where John and his Dad ran the business (mechanical repairs and petrol). In 1967, John went out on his own! He bought a corner block in Gorokan (Bertha and Main roads), where Smith and Adams Builders created a workshop for John.

John stayed at the Gorokan workshop until the early 80’s when his neighbour, Bob Holloway purchased the property. Bob eventually built retail premises over both properties.

Bob’s son, Kevin Holloway, built John a brand new workshop at 201 Arizona Road, Charmhaven (next to the concrete supply business). John pursued his business at this address until he sold out to a plumbing enterprise in 1989.

Once the business at 201 Arizona Road was sold, John arranged to have another workshop and house built on 25 acres further down the road (791), as he previously bought the land(1988).

From 1990 until June 2003, John conducted his business at the above address. He decided to retire, he sold the business to Adam and Megan Walters, and the property to Borg’s Kitchens.

On retirement, he moved to 50 acres at Dyer’s Crossing (6km west of Nabiac). A previous valued customer, Ross McLean (Master Builder) built John and his wife a lovely brick home on this property.

John has spent the past 16 years enjoying his farm, and of course, his retirement, family & friends.

Now 82 years of age, he is still reasonably active and quite contented.
